Mental Health Therapy Interns

We are proud to offer services with our clinical mental health interns, Gretchen (Art Therapy and Counseling student) and Jessica (Clinical Mental Health Counseling student). Working with an intern can be a meaningful and accessible way to begin therapy while still receiving high-quality, closely supported care.

  • Interns can accept clients using UPHP and BCBS. Clients may also choose not to use insurance and instead use our discounted self-pay sliding scale based on financial need, ranging from $20–$50 per session.

  • Our interns are closely supervised by Amy Rynn, LPC, as well as their respective graduate programs. Because they are in training:

    • Sessions may be recorded for supervision purposes

    • A supervisor may occasionally sit in on sessions

    • Clinical material may be used for educational assignments

Any of these situations will always be discussed in advance, and informed consent will be obtained from the client (or guardian if under age 18) before proceeding.

  • Clients working with our clinical mental health interns can receive support with a wide range of concerns, including:

    • Anxiety and stress management

    • Depression and low mood

    • Life transitions and adjustment challenges

    • Grief and loss

    • Self-esteem and identity exploration

    • Emotional regulation and coping skills

    • Relationship and communication skills

    • School, work, or academic stress

    • Social skills and peer concerns (especially for teens)

    • Mindfulness and grounding strategies

    • Processing past experiences in a supportive, paced way

    • Building healthy routines and self-care practices

Our interns are best suited for clients seeking support with mild to moderate concerns and who feel comfortable working with a closely supervised clinician in training. If a client’s needs fall outside the intern scope, we will help match them with a fully licensed therapist on our team.

About Gretchen

I’m a Michigan-based Emerging Art Therapist undergoing the Edgewood University Master’s Program in Art Therapy and Counseling.

I have experience with clients undergoing grief, trauma-informed care, community outreach and integration, memory, and mindfulness-based care.

I’m open to working with clients of all facets and exploring modalities to best suit client needs.

Along with being a multi-media artist, I believe in experimentation and exploration of mediums and methods, cohesively integrating art and therapy.

I plan to do individual and group work, with an emphasis on collaboration and cohesion that allows for growth.

About Jessica

Currently I am working towards becoming a licensed mental health counselor (LPC) working as an intern, available for in-person sessions with clients. Although I draw from a wide range of psychodynamic theories and modalities to attune to each clients individual needs, my primary interest is to a develop and apply a depth-psychology approach relative to the complex systemic impact of trauma on the individual and their relationships.

Working along side each client, my focus is to support facilitating a safe and compassionate environment to process, grow and thrive while simultaneously moving through the grief, pain and suffering of life’s many obstacles with renewing resilience.

To better help help draw out a clear road map moving through the complexity of life’s challenges, I draw from the principles of attachment focused trauma modalities such as the Neuro Affective Relational Model and Somatic Experiencing that can help draw out a clear road map moving through the complexity of life’s challenges.

WHAT INSPIRES ME:

As a middle-age mother and neighbor who is not stranger to loss and grief myself, I have had to navigate many painful scenarios too. The positive support my family and I received from the support and insight of working with a compassionate licensed psychotherapist greatly improved the quality of our lives. Here and now, my intention offer the opportunity to others who need healing and support to grow.

My core developing interests and ongoing training toward future certifications in this field are: Equine-Somatic Therapy and EMDR to address systemic traumatic affects.
